Assisted stretching has grown fast in the UAE. Several studios now offer it in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, alongside classes and home visits. From the outside they can look alike: a bench, a trainer, a price per session.
They are not alike. The difference shows up in how trainers are trained, how a session is planned and whether you keep coming back. Here are seven things worth checking before you book, wherever you go.
Assisted stretching means a trainer moves your body through each stretch while you relax. That only works with one trainer and one client. Group "stretch classes" can be good exercise, but they are a different thing: you do the stretching yourself.
Ask whether the session is private, and whether the trainer stays with you for the full time.
At Dr.stretch: every session is one trainer, one client, for 40, 60 or 90 minutes. We don't run classes.
"Certified" means little unless someone can say by whom, for how long and how it was tested. A good studio answers that question easily.
Ask how many hours of training a trainer completes before their first client, and whether anyone assesses them before they start.
At Dr.stretch: no trainer stretches a client until they have completed our training and passed an assessment. Every studio follows the same training standard. Read more in the making of a Dr.stretch trainer.
Two people with "tight hamstrings" can need very different sessions. A good first visit starts with questions about your routine, sport and injuries, then a quick check of how you move.
If a studio starts stretching before asking anything, that is worth noticing.
At Dr.stretch: your first session starts with a short conversation and a movement check. See what to expect in your first session.
A defined method means every trainer works the same way, so your session doesn't depend on who is free that day. Ask what the method is called and how it works.
At Dr.stretch: we use Core Balance Stretch, developed in Japan and used in more than 300 Dr.stretch studios in eight countries. The trainer stabilises the joints around a tight area first, so the stretch lands where the restriction is.
You should be able to see the price of a single session, what packages cost and how long they last, without a sales conversation. Check whether a package can be used at more than one location and what happens if you need to cancel.
At Dr.stretch: prices for 40, 60 and 90 minutes, 4, 8 and 12-session packages and the 3-session starter are on our pricing page. 4-session packages are valid for six months and 8 and 12-session packages for a year, and every package works at all six UAE studios.
Stretching works better when you relax, and you relax more easily in a calm, private space. Look for clean, quiet treatment areas and a place to change.
At Dr.stretch: sessions take place in a calm studio setting, with a private ladies-only room in every studio.
Results come from regular sessions, not one great one. The best studio for you is one you will keep visiting, so location, parking and opening hours matter more than people expect.
At Dr.stretch: we have six studios inside malls. In Dubai: Dubai Hills Mall, Nad Al Sheba Mall and Golden Mile Galleria, Palm Jumeirah. In Abu Dhabi: Marina Mall, Reem Mall and Yas Mall.
Save these for a quick WhatsApp message or call to any studio:
Prices vary by studio and session length. At Dr.stretch a single session is AED 370 for 40 minutes, AED 450 for 60 minutes and AED 600 for 90 minutes, with lower per-session prices in packages. See pricing and packages and current offers.
In assisted stretching a trainer moves your body through each stretch while you relax, one-on-one. In a class you stretch yourself, following an instructor, alongside other people.
No. Massage works on soft tissue through pressure; assisted stretching moves your joints through their range to lengthen muscles. Our stretching vs massage guide explains when each helps.
Most people start with one or two sessions a week, then settle into a regular rhythm. Our research summary covers what studies say about frequency.
Tell the studio before you book. For a recent injury, surgery or a medical condition, speak to your doctor or physiotherapist first.
The best test of any studio is a first session. Book at one of our studios in Dubai or studios in Abu Dhabi, and use the checklist above – we're happy to answer every question on it.
